Real Time Economy, (RTE) is a digital ecosystem where transactions between different economic actors take place in or near real-time. It means replacing paper-based business transactions and administrative procedures by automatically exchanging digital, structured and machine-readable data in standardized data formats.

RTE concept is currently under development in the Nordic- Baltic Region countries. RTE initiative has common aims and objectives with the Nordic Smart Government and sharing the knowledge and information is regular between these initiatives.RTE acknowledges that a lot of data is created with economic actions, and the possibility is to use this data multiple times to speed up business procedures, reduce manual work and increase economic volume. The goal is to finally forget about the paperwork congestion and make it possible for enterprises to focus on business growth. Even more, RTE concept sees a significant impact and benefit for the green environment and green ICT.
